Objective: This article aims to propose a educational strategy for the conservation of butterflies (Lepidoptera: Papilionoidea) in District 86 of the Julio A. Mella Popular Council, in the city of Camagüey, Cuba.
Methods: Theoretical-level methods such as analytical-synthetic and inductive-deductive approaches were used, along with empirical-level methods including observation, interviews, and expert judgment based on the Delphi method.
Result: A strategy was designed with a gender-sensitive and ethnobiological approach. It encompasses two main directions: one aimed at community members and potential butterfly house staff; the other focused on implementing educational activities in various schools within the district. The strategy consists of three stages: diagnosis and characterization, planning and execution, and evaluation. It includes workshops, talks, exhibitions, and contests to promote knowledge about the characteristics, biology, and importance of this zoological group, as well as the plants they use as hosts and nectar sources. Activities also involve planting host plants, crafting, and designing educational materials, a short film, and a mobile application (APK).
Conclusion: He proposed pedagogical strategy for the conservation of butterflies (Lepidoptera: Papilionoidea) was deemed relevant and feasible by the consulted experts. Its outcomes may be promising in terms of community engagement and awareness regarding the conservation and sustainability of this group of insects.
